Honored Art Worker of Ukraine
Oleksii Perhamenshchyk is a Ukrainian sculptor and monumentalist, an Honored Art Worker of Ukraine and the creator of the Trident on the shield of the Mother Ukraine monument. His practice spans monumental sculpture, stone carving, teaching, cultural heritage restoration and international cooperation.
He began his training at the Mozaika art studio, continued at Cantell School in Southampton and studied painting and sculpture at Kent State University. He graduated from the Republican Art School and the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture.
A member of the Union since 1999. Since 2023, he has served as Deputy Chair, responsible for sculpture and youth policy. He has participated in exhibitions and sculpture symposia in Ukraine and abroad.
Founder of the workshop whose team has produced hundreds of sculptures and decorative works for parks, private residences, hotels and business centres.
He taught at the Mykhailo Boychuk Kyiv State Academy of Decorative and Applied Arts and Design. The programme focused on reviving the stone-carving traditions of the Kyivan Rus era.
He began a second degree in Parliamentarism at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and collaborated on the design of UAV fuselages. Since 2024, he has worked at the National Academy of Culture and Arts Management, leading international cooperation. In 2025–2026, he worked on the restoration and reconstruction of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
He serves as an assistant to the Mayor of Fastiv. Together with Mykhailo Netiazhuk, he developed the monumental ceramic panel Ukraine and the EU Together, permanently displayed in the European Parliament building in Brussels.
On 24 August 2026, by Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 755/2026, Oleksii Perhamenshchyk received the honorary title Honored Art Worker of Ukraine. He has also received the Orders of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and the Archangel Michael.
Working in the realist tradition, he practises direct free carving in granite and marble without an intermediate plaster model. In some works he removes up to 90% of the original block; over his career, he has worked approximately 400 tonnes of stone.
The new national symbol on the monument’s shield became a sign of renewed national identity. The project united sculpture, engineering and high-altitude installation.
